HURRICANE PROCEDURES

Hurricanes and tornadoes are a fact of life in South Louisiana. When hurricanes are forecast for our area, we have enough time to react – usually through evacuation. However, tornadoes can strike with no forewarning.

HURRICANE PROCEDURES

Hurricanes pose the greatest threat for loss of life and property to residents of the South Louisiana area. When a hurricane watch is issued for our area, we will begin implementing precautionary and security measures. If a hurricane warning is issued for our area, the storm is expected to actually strike our area within twenty-four hours (there is a remote chance a hurricane warning would be issued for Baton Rouge or East Baton Rouge Parish). We will evacuate the building when a hurricane warning is announced, or sooner if we need to be in compliance with governmental authority. We will relay this information using the telephone and our website www.wampold.com. If the warning and evacuation is issued after hours, Building Management personnel will contact one person on your emergency contact list to let them know the building status as well as post this information to our website www.wampold.com. That person would then disseminate this information to his or her co-workers.

Once an evacuation is complete, the elevators will be shut down. The lobby will be locked, and access will be prohibited to everyone except Security and Maintenance personnel.

If the building does close, your employees should take the following steps before leaving:

1. Shut down all computer systems and equipment and unplug them if possible. Valuable electronic equipment should be temporarily stored in a safer interior office. BACK UP YOUR DATA AND TAKE A COPY HOME WITH YOU.

2. Remove all loose papers from desk tops and file cabinets, especially in exterior offices.

3. Remove valuable papers and artwork from all exterior offices since windows could be lost due to wind pressure and airborne objects.

4. Turn off all office equipment (coffee makers, copiers, etc.)

5. Close all exterior suite doors; lock main hallway doors.

If an evacuation is necessary we will try to announce our intentions to evacuate approximately two hours before actually calling for full evacuation. Once evacuated, however, we will not allow anyone to return to the building until the storm and/or storm damage has reached a controlled situation.

To determine whether the building will be re-opened, we will first rely upon governmental authorities to permit occupancy. Building Management and Maintenance will then access building systems and conditions to determine if the building is safe to occupy. We will then contact the one name on the emergency contact list and post an update to our website www.wampold.com. We would also like to remind you to confirm with your insurance carrier the coverage on your office contents, which may be damaged by water or wind.
